About Ewald Horn
This is the story about how my life... Err, no, I'll spare you!
Hi, I'm Ewald Horn, and I have been providing freelance software
development services as an independent contractor globally from
Cape Town, South Africa, under the trade name NoFuss Solutions
since 2004.
My passion is building business solutions, with a specific focus on startups and smaller companies. You can view my full profile here if you are interested in some background information.
Hello there!
My most enjoyable engagements by far have been where I augmented teams by bringing skills and expertise they lacked to the table. Working with in-house teams as an external consultant can be a rewarding experience for all parties involved as it allows for the transfer of knowledge while alleviating pressure on the team. I'm really grateful for the friendships I've formed while working in this capacity with teams across many time zones.
As a developer, I tend to focus on building APIs and backend services used by other systems. I'm all about a collaborative approach and insist on the client being involved in the entire process, from start to finish. I'm comfortable finding the right technology to solve whatever business challenge I'm working on, though I do have a strong bias towards things like Go (Golang) and JavaScript.
I excel at building the esoteric, the bespoke and the downright crazy stuff. If you are a bit of a maverick, bucking the trend, we should get along swimmingly! Adding business value is at the core of what I do and I'm quick to say no to a project when I see it does not move the business forward in a meaningful way.
All my work is done via remote technologies like Slack, Zoom, Skype, Trello and the cloud. I'd be happy to have a video call with you to see if there's synergy in our approaches and ways of working.
Part of being a freelancer, or contractor, if you prefer, is that I often get asked to come flap my gums at events. I share some of my experiences in the hope that it can save someone else from doing something as equally daft as I did in learning these lessons.
Here is a list of some of the talks and presentations I have given over the last while.
